Maserati's 1966 introduced 2-seater Ghibli employed a shortened Mexico chassis and stunning Ghia bodywork penned by their in-house stylist Giugiaro.
Most of the 1274 built in Modena between 1966 and 1973 were fastback coupes, only 125 being open cars.
A 330bhp 4.7-litre V8 was fitted until 1970, when it was replaced by a 4.9 which actually produced only 5 more bhp.
As confirmed by Ermannono Cozza, Consulenza Storica at Maserati S.p.A 12 January 2009, Maserati Ghibli AM 115 1528 was the subject of a purchase order dated 21 July 1970 from Maserati dealers I.M.I Inc of Wilshire Boulevard, Beverely Hills, California, for their client property developer and home building tycoon Randall E Presley at his business address in Newport Beach.
Specified optional equipment of power steering, AM/FM radio and spare parts kit, the 4.7-litre fixed head coupe was to be collected from the Italian factory by the customer who would be in Europe to pick up the car in September of that year.
