DKW was one of the four companies united into the Auto Union, with Horsch, Wanderer, and Audi.

Built upon a chassis of only 102 inches, this powerful three cylinder, two stoke unit was capable of high revs and remarkable on and off-road performance.

The manufacturer claimed it could climb a 30% grade, offered FWD/4x4 "on the fly", and was able to attain highway speeds of 70 MPH.

No oil changes, and only seven moving parts in the engine offered very easy maintenance.

The design was later redefined by Suzuki in the late 70's.
