Constructeur de micro voitures, Iso rejoignit les rangs des producteurs de supercars en 1962 en lançant au Salon de Turin le coupé Rivolta conçu par Giotto Bizzarrini.
La société Isothermos de Renzo Rivolta avait débuté avant la guerre par la fabrication des réfrigérateurs avant d'aborder celle des scooters sous la marque Iso après 1945 puis, avec un grand succès, celle des micro-voitures Isetta.
Dessinée par la Carrozzeria Bertone par Giorgetto Giugiaro et dotée d'un moteur Chevrolet V8 de 5,4 litres, la quatre-places Rivolta comportait une plate-forme en tôle d'acier et des suspensions indépendantes à l'avant, un essieu de Dion à l'arrière et quatre freins à disque (suspendus à l'arrière).
La première supercar d'Iso fixa les grandes lignes de celles qui allaient suivre : châssis conçu par Bizzarrini, carrosseries Bertone et moteurs Chevrolet.
Les développements ultérieurs apportèrent la Grifo courte et musclée et la Lele, remplaçante de la Rivolta, mais pour la berline Fidia quat...
