Excepting perhaps the guards at Buckingham Palace, few things are as iconic of Britain as the London taxicab.

Developed to serve the needs of passengers and for maximum maneuverable in city traffic, the FX3 taxicab was introduced in 1948.

Based on an Austin chassis, it was bodied by Carbodies of Coventry.

Although its successor, the FX4, appeared in 1958, it was many years before all the FX3s were finally retired.

In taxi service in Britain until 1964, this FX3 taxi was purchased by its current owner in 2006.

Used for promotional work by the previous owner, it has been repainted in the original black color, and the brown leather interior has been freshened.

Although very presentable, it shows some evidence of its age and use.

The brightwork is a bit dull and the running boards show modest wear.

The car comes with a reprint of the owner’s manual, and the original London-issued number plate is on the rear.
