A major sales success for BMC, the Farina-styled family of medium-sized saloons first appeared in December 1958 in the form of the Wolseley ‘15/60’, versions badged as Austin, Morris, MG and Riley following.

All cars used the same basic bodyshell and 1,489cc B-Series engine, model differences being achieved by alternative front and rear end treatments, interior trim and instrumentation.

The Riley ‘4/68’ arrived in April 1959, sharing its body - featuring distinctive cut-back tail fins - and twin-carburettor, 64bhp engine with the MG Magnette MkIII, both models being built at Cowley.

Well equipped in the long tradition of Riley sports saloons, the ‘4/68’ featured an imposing binnacle of instruments - including rev counter - backed by beautiful walnut veneer.

The model was revised in 1961 along with the rest of the B-Series, gaining improved suspension and the 1,622cc engine to become the ‘4/72’.
