The Chicago-built Holsman first took to the road in 1903, the highwheeler design being perfected for the rough roads normally frequented by horse-drawn buggies in the Mid-West.

The demand was instant and the two cylinder highwheeler, although primitive, proved effective.

Early examples were driven by rope but eventually this developed into final drive by chain.

The simple braking system acted on the steel tyres in horse-drawn fashion and was hand operated.

Tiller steering was used throughout production of the Holsman, albeit by 1910 this was an anachronism.

When Henry K.

Holsman ceased production at the Chicago plant in 1910 he continued to produce a similar vehicle at Plano which was called the International Harvester and of course that name was to remain in the history books for significantly longer.

This vehicle is distinctively finished in grey livery with black coachlining and chassis details, with red-liveried high wheels and has deep-buttoned black leather upholstery.
