It was originally used as an engineering and development vehicle by Ford Performance to aid in fine-tuning the 2017 Ford GT program for production.

In early 2019, this car and one other pre-production GT were converted into “2019” Ford GT Mk IIs by Ford Performance.

This example and its sister car (which permanently resides in the Ford Heritage Fleet) were used to support various Mk II launch events and ongoing Ford Performance marketing events.

The GT Mk II was co-developed by Ford Performance and Multimatic without racing regulations, allowing higher output than the GT race car and road car.
