An attractive example of the highly regarded Elan S4 ‘Black Badge’, finished in vibrant Yellow with black vinyl interior a combination that perfectly complements the model’s delicate proportions and unmistakable 1960s Lotus character.

Part of Lotus folklore - the use of the black Lotus badging was said to pay respects to the legendary Team Lotus F1 driver Jim Clark.

It is thought that this Elan has worn the badging from new.

The ‘Black Badge’ cars, introduced during the later S4 production run, remain especially desirable among enthusiasts. It is not clear when the 'Black Badge' returned to Yellow.

Developed under the direction of Colin Chapman and produced by Lotus Cars, the Elan S4 represents one of the purest expressions of Chapman’s lightweight philosophy.

With its backbone chassis, fibreglass body and lively twin-cam engine, the Elan remains one of the finest handling sports cars of its era, a benchmark frequently cited for steering feel and chassis balance.
