It took significant investment from Jaguar’s new owners, Tata, to bring a truly competitive saloon to market with the XE.
Unlike the first-generation XF, which shared much with the old S-Type, the XE was a completely fresh design, boasting 75% aluminium construction, advanced suspension, and Jaguar’s high-tech ‘Ingenium’ engines.
The stand-out performer in the XE range was the XE S.
Under its bonnet sat Jaguar’s proven ‘AJ’ V6 engine with a supercharger – the same unit found in the F-Type sports car.
Initially producing 340hp, output was increased to 380hp in 2017, cutting the 0–62mph sprint to just 4.8 seconds.
This made the XE S a strong, characterful, and melodious power-plant that remains an appealing and affordable choice on the used market.
