United Kingdom • 12 Dec 2017
Vehicle Details
AI Listing Summary
This Fiat 126 BIS is presented as a 'running restoration,' indicating it's drivable but undergoing ongoing improvements. Notable work includes a fully restored underside and sills, with a new clutch and gearbox mountings fitted in 2016; however, it requires cosmetic attention, particularly to rust on the front wing and interior elements like seat coverings and headlining.

Condition
5
The vehicle is described as a 'running restoration' with significant work done on the underside and sills. However, there are cosmetic issues such as rust bubbles on the front wing and the seat coverings and headlining need attention. These factors suggest a condition that requires some reconditioning but is fundamentally sound.

The 126 used much of the same mechanical underpinnings and layout as its Fiat 500 rear-engined predecessor with which it shared its wheelbase, but featured an all new bodyshell resembling a scaled-down Fiat 127, also enhancing safety.
Engine capacity was increased from 594 cc to 652 cc at the end of 1977 when the cylinder bore was increased from 73.5 to 77 mm.
Claimed power output was unchanged at 23 hp, but torque was increased from 39 N·m to 43 newton metres.
The 594 cc engines were still available in early 1983 production.
Despite clever marketing, the 126 never achieved the frenzied popularity of the 500.
The Fiat 126 BIS offered here is described by the vendor as a running restoration.
It was previously owned by an enthusiast who fully restored the underside and sills, and a new clutch and gearbox mountings were fitted in 2016.
There is some rust bubble to the front wing and the seat coverings and headlining need attention.
A good starter classic for the home enthusiast.
