This carburettor-engined Citroën SM left the factory in 1972 with a superb colour scheme combining ‘Bleu d’Orient’ (AC 616) paintwork and a magnificent brown leather interior.
It has a clear and unusual history, as it was delivered new on 29 May 1972 to the French Embassy in Saudi Arabia, as is recorded in its original service book.
When it had done about 20,000km, it was bought by the then CEO of Mitsubishi, before being acquired, in 1981, by its previous owner, a keen Citroën enthusiast, when it had covered a total of just over 60,000km.
In 2015, he had some major mechanical restoration work carried out on this fine example, with all the components checked and replaced when necessary.
The hydraulic systems (for the brakes, steering and suspension) were also overhauled, and the kingpins and ball joint...
