The Abarth SE04 (for Speziale Esecuzione) made its debut in spring 1966 as the 1000 SP.

Designed by Mario Colucci with a tubular chassis, centrally-mounted engine and fibreglass bodywork, it was light and quickly made its mark in the 1000 cc class.

A year later, a larger and longer model, the SE04/L, appeared, and in 2000 SP guise this also proved successful, particularly in hill climbs in the hands of the Swiss driver Peter Schetty.

One of its finest results was at Montlhéry in April 1967, where the two Abarths driven by Johannes Ortner and Toine Hezemans finished first and second in the Coupes de Vitesse ahead of Ferrari and Ford!
