Following the success of the Espace, designed by Matra and launched in 1984, Renault further developed its first mass-produced people carrier and unveiled in 1991 what was later known as the Espace II.

While retaining a fibreglass body, it had smoother styling with a very cohesive overall appearance.

The interior was better finished and more comprehensively equipped.

A total of 317,225 cars were built until 1997 and several versions were available.
 
The Espace II from the collection is a ‘Grand Écran’, based on the RXE, which was itself the top of the range model with a high standard of equipment including electric windows, a leather steering wheel, plush carpeting, twin sunroofs with blinds and central locking.
