Established in 1971 as a replacement for Formula France, Formula Renault was one of the most popular entry-level series.

It gave a great many budding racing drivers the chance to move up from karts to single-seaters and was exceptionally long-lived, as it only came to an end in 2020, making way for the regional Formula 3 and Formula 4 series.
Over five decades, it naturally evolved in terms of the chassis and engines used.

The car we are presenting has a Martini MK20E chassis, corresponding to the 1977 season.

It was undoubtedly a Formula Renault Europe car with a naturally-aspirated engine but, perhaps on an experimental basis, was subsequently fitted with the same R18 turbo engine that was used on the Formula Renault Turbo cars from 1982.

As the basic engine was the same, installing it was not an issue.
