From autumn 1969 onwards, Mercedes’ top-of-the-range 300 SEL model had an extra badge on its boot lid: 3.5.

This denoted the presence under the bonnet of a new 3.5-litre V8 developing 200bhp, an engine which was well up to the high standard of quality to which this series was built.
This example, first registered on 9 May 1972, was produced for the French market and supplied in Sand Beige metallic with a Tobacco Brown roof and brown cloth upholstery.

It has some interesting options including a four-speed automatic gearbox, air-conditioning and heat-absorbing glass.

In original condition, it has been repainted in the past and has undergone recent work.

In 2021, the brakes were overhauled by Mercedes and the gearbox housing removed to be cleaned.

In September 2023, four new Michelin tyres were fitted and the geometry adjusted.
