In 1963 and as a proven manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles, Honda entered the automobile industry by offering a coupe and a convertible of minimal dimensions powered by a 530 cc inline four-cylinder engine derived from its motorcycle range.
The chain-driven S500 was succeeded by the S600 in 1964 and then by the S800 in 1966.
The engine of the latter was increased to 791 cc and delivered an impressive 70 hp at over 8,000 rpm, rev range unheard-of for a road car in the 1960s.
This time, a conventional rear axle replaced the chains.
With its fundamentally sporty character and dynamic handling, this unique little bombshell left a lasting mark on its era, both as a coupe and a convertible.
The current owner of this superb S800 acquired it at the Epoquauto Show in Lyon, after literally falling in love with this little Japanese car.
