Créée par George Singer en 1876, l'entreprise du même nom s'est distinguée par une gamme d'automobiles bien conçues qui lui a permis à la fin des années 20 d'occuper la troisième place des constructeurs anglais, derrière Austin et Morris.

Sans avoir une véritable vocation sportive, Singer a lancé au début des années 30 la petite Nine 972 cm3, concurrente directe des MG Midget, et la marque a décidé d'en engager un exemplaire aux 24 Heures du Mans 1933.
