Avant d'arriver au coupé qui nous intéresse ici, elle est passée par une paisible gestation qui a commencé sous forme de berline.
En 1955 en effet apparaissait la Florida, prototype qui devait succéder à la berline Aurelia vieillissante.
Elle en reprenait les recettes techniques : nouveau moteur V6 2,5 litres plus large pour supporter d'éventuelles augmentations de cylindrée, ensemble boîte-pont à l'arrière avec freins accolés au pont.
