Commercialisée à partir de 1973, la 365 GT/4 BB est équipée d'un 12 cylindres à plat "boxer" placé derrière le pilote, d'où son nom de "Berlinetta Boxer".
En 1976, elle évolue en 512 BB et le moteur passe de 4,4 à 5 litres.
En 1981, avec la disparition des carburateurs au profit de l'injection, le moteur délivre 340 ch, avec une amélioration de l'agrément de conduite grâce à une puissance plus progressive et mieux maîtrisée.
Ainsi équipée, la redoutable berlinette atteint 285 km/h et couvre le 0 à 100 km/h en 6,5 secondes.
