Nicknamed Gloria, this 1966 Mercedes‑Benz 220 SE Cabriolet was acquired by the vendor in 2000, from a family cousin who owned it from 1981.
Prior to that, it's believed that the car was purchased new for use by the chairman of ICI.
The present owner has used the car for trips abroad including France and Malta.
And it was in Malta, during the early part of the 21st century, that it was restored according to the history file; a task not without incident, as the gearbox parts were stolen en route from Scotland to Malta, and the subsequent delay to the rebuild resulted in Malta customs authorities threatening to impound the car.
There's an eye‑watering amount of paperwork (albeit only dating back to the 1990s), showing lots of care and attention for even minor issues, and a great deal of expenditure.
