At the wheel of the bus he had built in 1955, Alois Ruf was taking his son for a drive.

A Porsche 356 overtook them and crashed into the scenery: the car was badly damaged, and the driver was taken to hospital by our two protagonists.

After buying the wreck, Ruf father and son set to work and rebuilt it piece by piece: this was Alois Ruf Jr.’s first encounter with Porsche.

Inspired by the young man’s boundless passion (he was 13 at the time of the 356 incident), the family business, Auto-RUF, began specialising in repairing crashed Porsches in the region.Alois Ruf Sr.

passed away in 1974, leaving his 24-year-old son to take over the family business.
