Humber is an English car brand, which originated the Rootes Group.

The Humber Twelve in a 2-door saloon version, like the
one illustrated on these pages, is a car with an astonishing history.
It was designed by Captain Molyneux to attract the attention of female customers.

This was one of the first serious attempts by a car manufacturer to produce a product specifically for women.


Captain Molyneux is best known as a fashion designer and perfumer.

Based in Paris since 1919, he was the favourite haute
couture designer of many members of the British royal family and is famous for saying: ‘No woman can be too rich or too thin.’
In 1932, Molyneux opened a fashion house in London, which was probably when Humber, recently acquired by the Rootes Group, commissioned him to design the Vogue saloon, a model that today would more accurately be described as a fixed-roof coupé.
