Developed in part under the German occupation but first marketed in 1948 (along with the 2 CV, it was one of the stars of the Motor Show that year), the 203 was Peugeot’s first mass-produced car with a self-supporting body.
Along with the Citroën 2 CV and the Renault 4 CV, the car played a key role in the recovery of early post-war France: almost 686,000 examples were produced before production ended in 1960, and for several years the 203 was the only civilian car in Peugeot’s catalogue.
In its day, it was considered a reliable, economical and manoeuvrable machine, and even shone in rallying.
