The Mercedes 300 was presented at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, and was the largest and most powerful German production car at the time.

It quickly became the preferred car of wealthy industrialists and politicians, earning it the nickname “Adenauer” in reference to the German Chancellor, who used it for all his travels.
Based on the pre-war 260, it was equipped with a 6-cylinder 3.0l engine with overhead camshafts, developing 115 hp in its first version and capable of reaching 160 km/h; available as a sedan or a D convertible, it benefited from numerous evolutions until 1962, when it was replaced by the 600.
