For the sportsman of the late 1920s, the Lagonda is the archetype of the fast tourer, comfortable enough to consider a long trip on new European roads.
In 1898 a certain Wilbur Gunn, an American born in Springfield, Ohio in 1853, founded the Lagonda firm, based in England.
Named after the Indian name of a river near Springfield, he first manufactured motorcycles and before being joined, by a certain Arthur H.
Cranmer, motor tricycles.
Like most pioneers, Gunn and Cranmer soon added a fourth wheel and began building much-appreciated buggies for a new clientele.
One of these cars won the 1910 Moscow-St.
Petersburg Rally, opening new opportunities within the Russian market.
