Après les succès de la Miura et de l'Espada, l'entreprise de Ferruccio Lamborghini souhaite asseoir son rang parmi les acteurs majeurs de l'automobile sportive.
Les espoirs de la firme de Sant'Agata reposent sur un nouveau projet de modèle d'entrée de gamme: l'Urraco.
Présentée au Salon de Turin en 1970 et promise au succès, sa ligne dessinée par Marcello Gandini pour Bertone est révolutionnaire pour un coupé 2+2.
Son allure sportive est accentuée par des phares escamotables ainsi que les célèbres louvres sur le capot arrière repris de la Miura.
L'Urraco est propulsée dans sa première version P250 par un tout nouveau moteur V8 en aluminium de 2 463cm3 développant 220 chevaux, alimenté par quatre carburateurs Weber 40 IDF.
