A mini-Unimog is perhaps the best way to describe this go-anywhere machine, quite appropriate as a Haflinger is the name for a steady-footed horse
Originally designed for the Austrian Army as post-war replacements for their ageing fleet of US Army Jeeps and built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Steyr in Austria
Lockable front and rear differentials, fully independent suspension, entirely removable soft top and doors providing a low centre of gravity, everything done in the pursuit of rendering the Haflinger unstoppable off road
Simplicity at its best, with an air-cooled 643cc flat-twin engine and weighing just 635kg, the Haflinger can be lifted by four strong people
This 1971 example presents well with the soft top canvas and seats in good order and the odometer displaying 17,300 miles at the time of viewing
Prime for a quirky farm runabout or to host days on one's estate, Land Rover, eat your heart out.
