FAQs

- How much does professional car storage actually cost in the UK?

It varies wildly, but "you get what you pay for" applies heavily here. Basic dry barn storage might start at £100–£120 + VAT per month, but for a proper climate-controlled facility with active management (checking fluids, rolling tyres), expect to pay £180–£350 per month. London and the South East will naturally command a premium. Our advice? Don't skimp on the environment; saving £50 a month isn't worth thousands in rust repairs later.

- Do I really need "dehumidified" storage, or is a dry garage enough?

In the UK climate, humidity is the silent killer. A standard garage protects from rain but not moisture in the air (relative humidity). A professional dehumidified facility maintains roughly 55% RH, which is the "Goldilocks zone"—dry enough to stop rust on chrome and chassis, but moist enough to stop leather cracking and wood veneers shrinking. If your car is an investment, dehumidified storage is non-negotiable.

- Does my own insurance cover the car while it's in storage?

Do not assume it does. Many standard classic policies require the car to be at your home address overnight. However, most professional storage facilities offer "comprehensive liability" insurance while the car is in their care. Top Tip: Tell your insurer the car is moving to a secure facility. Because the risk of theft is lower there than on your driveway, you might actually see your premium go down, sometimes enough to offset a bit of the storage fees.

- How often should I access or drive the car?

Cars hate sitting still. Seals dry out and flat spots form on tyres. The best storage facilities offer "active management" where they run the car up to temperature or roll it every few weeks. If you are storing it "dead" (untouched for winter), try to visit it once a month. If you plan to take the car out for weekend blasts, check the facility's access hours first—some require 24-hours notice to get your car out from the back of the stack.
