SS cars emerged from Swallow Sidecar Company, founded in 1922, initially making motorcycle sidecars.
Later, they ventured into car bodies, notably with the Austin Seven Swallow.
In 1931, the SS I marked their first complete car.
Post-WWII, to distance from the Nazi connotation, SS became Jaguar in 1945.
Did you know that William Lyons, the founder, cleverly used borrowed chassis to create the initial SS cars? He designed stylish bodies, selling them at competitive prices. This strategy allowed SS to enter the market without huge initial investment, a pretty smart move.
