A false rumor about the car's durability hurting sales plagued the company.
Here's a little-known story: Rickenbacker cars featured a unique safety design. The body was built with an inner and outer shell, separated by a small gap. The idea was to absorb impact in a collision. This "safety first" approach was ahead of its time, but it added to the car's cost, making it less competitive.
