The Ford Ranger debuted in 1982 as a compact pickup. It replaced the Courier, a rebadged Mazda.
Fun fact: The Ranger name was first used on a Ford trim in 1965 for the F-Series pickups. It wasn't until '82 that it became its own model.
A little-known story: Ford initially planned to call the Ranger the "Courier II," but ultimately decided on "Ranger" to better align with Ford's truck branding strategy.
