Polaris started out in Roseau, Minnesota, in 1954. Three fellows, Edgar Hetteen, Allan Hetteen, and David Johnson, were looking for a way to get around snowy areas. They created their first snowmobile in 1955.
The company initially focused on snowmobiles, but later expanded into other vehicles. In the 1980s, Polaris got into the ATV market. They kept growing, adding motorcycles and other vehicles to their lineup.
Did you know Polaris almost made Indy cars? In the early 1990s, they developed a V10 engine for IndyCar racing. The project was scrapped after testing, but the engine made serious power.
