Peterbilt, founded by T.A. Peterman in 1939, emerged from his need to transport logs more efficiently.
Peterman, who was in the logging business, sought ways to improve vehicle durability. He rebuilt surplus military trucks, leading to the creation of purpose-built logging trucks.
After Peterman's death in 1944, Peterbilt was sold to a group of investors.
Did you know Peterbilt initially wasn't meant to be a truck manufacturer? Peterman's focus was modernizing his logging operations, and the trucks were a means to that end.
