MMC, or Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, has roots tracing back to 1870 with Yataro Iwasaki's shipping firm. Automotive production began in 1917 with the Model A, Japan's first series-production passenger car.
During World War II, Mitsubishi focused on military production. Post-war, they re-entered the automotive market.
A little-known fact: Mitsubishi built scooters. The Silver Pigeon, introduced in 1946, was inspired by a scooter an engineer saw during the war. It was a hit, helping rebuild Japan's transportation.
