Leon Bollee, a French car maker, started in 1896.
The Bollee family were bellfounders in the 1800s. Leon Bollee, though, was interested in mechanics. He built a calculating machine and then turned to cars.
His first car was a three-wheeler. It was based on a design by Amadee Bollee. Later, Leon focused on four-wheeled cars.
A lesser-known fact: Leon Bollee cars were among the first to use shaft drive instead of chain drive. This was a big deal for reliability.
