Lada, a marque of AvtoVAZ, emerged in the Soviet Union in the 1960s. Built in collaboration with Fiat, its initial model, the VAZ-2101, was based on the Fiat 124.
Ladas were exported widely, becoming known for their robustness and affordability.
A little-known fact: In the 1980s, AvtoVAZ secretly developed a rotary engine Lada, aiming for higher performance. However, due to production complexities, it was only available to the police and KGB.
