In the 1970s, Kia produced Mazda-licensed cars.
Financial troubles in the 1990s led to Hyundai acquiring a stake in 1998.
Did you know Kia almost vanished? The 1997 Asian financial crisis hit hard. Kia declared bankruptcy. Hyundai Motor Company stepped in, acquiring a majority stake. This saved Kia, and the two companies now form the Hyundai Motor Group.
