Jawa, a Czech manufacturer, began in 1929, producing motorcycles and cars.
František Janeček, a weapons manufacturer, acquired the Wanderer motorcycle tooling, hence "Ja-Wa."
During the communist era, Jawa motorcycles were exported worldwide.
A lesser-known fact: Jawa produced a car called the Jawa Minor, a small, streamlined vehicle, in the late 1930s and 40s. It was innovative for its time, featuring a front-wheel drive.
