The Jaguar XJS Hess & Eisenhardt convertible was a limited-production model. Hess & Eisenhardt, an Ohio coachbuilder, modified XJS coupes into convertibles under contract from Jaguar starting in 1986.
The impetus for the convertible came from Jaguar dealers in the US, who wanted a convertible XJS to compete with other luxury brands. Jaguar initially resisted producing a convertible in-house.
The XJS had no direct successor convertible. Jaguar later introduced its own XJS convertible in 1988.
A little-known fact: Some early Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles experienced issues with water leaks around the modified roof. Hess & Eisenhardt addressed these problems during the production run.
