Fisker started in 2007 by Henrik Fisker and Bernhard Koehler. The Fisker Karma, a luxury plug-in hybrid, was their first model. Production stopped in 2012 due to financial issues and its battery supplier A123 Systems filing for bankruptcy.
In 2014, Wanxiang Group bought Fisker Automotive. Henrik Fisker started a new company, Fisker Inc., in 2016. Fisker Inc. is developing electric vehicles, including the Fisker Ocean SUV.
A little-known fact: Fisker originally planned a Karma Shooting Brake version. Prototypes existed, but it never reached production due to the company's initial financial problems.
