The Anderson Electric Car Company, the maker of Detroit Electric, targeted women and doctors as their primary market, touting the quiet and clean operation of their vehicles.
Clara Ford, wife of Henry Ford, owned and drove Detroit Electric cars.
Production ceased in 1939 due to various factors, including the lower cost of gasoline cars and improved road infrastructure.
A little-known fact: Detroit Electric cars used Edison batteries. Thomas Edison was a personal friend of the Anderson family.
