Columbia, initially an electric car pioneer, emerged in the late 1890s.
Manufacturing both electric and gasoline vehicles, Columbia faced stiff competition.
An interesting tidbit: Columbia built the first car specifically designed for presidential use. In 1907, they delivered a custom-built gasoline-powered car to President Theodore Roosevelt.
