Checker Marathon, produced from 1961 to 1982, became a symbol of New York City.
Did you know Checker taxis had a secret? Some were equipped with hidden switches. Drivers could lock the rear doors and activate a partition, protecting them in dangerous situations. This feature, while not widely advertised, added to the cab's reputation for safety and reliability among drivers.
