Chalmers-Detroit, an early 1900s auto maker, emerged from the Chalmers-Detroit Motor Company in 1908, after Hugh Chalmers bought out the E.R. Thomas-Detroit Company.
Chalmers aimed to build reliable, mid-priced cars.
One little-known fact: Walter P. Chrysler, later of Chrysler Corporation fame, was once Chalmers' works manager. He implemented mass production techniques there, before his own venture.
