The company included brands like Austin, Morris, Rover, and Jaguar.
It faced challenges with industrial relations and quality control.
One little-known story: In the 1970s, British Leyland secretly developed a mid-engine sports car, the Panther.
It was intended to rival Ferrari and Lamborghini.
However, due to financial difficulties, the project was scrapped before production.
