Autobianchi, an Italian car manufacturer, was founded in 1955. It was a joint venture between Bianchi, Fiat, and Pirelli.
The company aimed to produce higher-end, technologically innovative small cars, using Fiat components.
Autobianchi was known for experimenting with new technologies. The Primula, launched in 1964, was the first Fiat Group car with front-wheel drive and a transverse engine.
Fiat took over Autobianchi in 1968. The brand was discontinued in 1995.
Here's a lesser-known story: Autobianchi's A112, a small hatchback produced from 1969 to 1986, was a popular rally car. Abarth versions of the A112 were particularly successful in Italian national rallies.
