Austin-Morris arose from British Leyland's 1968 merger.
The name reflected badge engineering, selling the same cars under different brands.
A lesser-known tale: the Austin Allegro, meant to be revolutionary, faced criticism for its "Quartic" steering wheel.
It was so unpopular that some dealers offered a standard round wheel as a replacement.
