Tell Me More
The Saab Sonett was a two-seat sports car. Three distinct generations were made, the Sonett I, II, and III.
The Sonett I was a lightweight open-top roadster made of fiberglass. Only six were made between 1955 and 1957.
The Sonett II was introduced in 1966. It was initially powered by a two-stroke engine, later switching to a Ford V4 engine.
The Sonett III was introduced in 1970, with a redesigned body.
There was no direct successor.
Few know that the name "Sonett" came about almost by accident. When the original project team was trying to come up with a name for the prototype, one of them exclaimed "Sonett" which is Swedish for "So neat" or "How lovely". The name stuck.
