MERCEDES-BENZ (W198) 300 SL GULLWING

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, produced between 1954 and 1957, was derived from the company's successful W194 racing car. Its iconic "gullwing" doors were a necessity, not a design choice, due to the car's tubular spaceframe chassis, which made conventional doors impossible.

Its successor was the 300 SL Roadster, introduced in 1957.

A lesser-known fact is that the 300 SL's fuel injection system was the first of its kind to be fitted to a production car. This innovation significantly boosted the engine's power output compared to its carbureted racing counterpart.
