Tell Me More
The Kaiser Darrin, a 1950s brainchild of Henry Kaiser and designer Howard "Dutch" Darrin, was a daring move for Kaiser Motors.
Darrin, inspired by European sports cars, designed the fiberglass-bodied roadster independently and presented it to Kaiser.
Its most distinctive feature was its sliding doors that disappeared into the front fenders.
Production ran briefly in 1954, with around 435 cars made.
There was no direct successor to the Kaiser Darrin.
Few know that some unsold Darrins were repurposed. Darrin himself bought about 100 of the remaining cars and modified them, some with Cadillac Eldorado tailfins, creating unique variations.
